YOU GET TO LAUGH

KIDS GET CAMP!

Oooh it is getting cold outside, which has us thinking about the return of the Ice Breakers! Once again, we will be raising money for the Strong Kids Campaign by jumping into the frigid depths of Plantain Pond this winter. The best part is you can be involved without dipping even the nail of your pinky toe into the icy cold water. Please help by supporting one of our volunteers who will be taking the plunge. To find out who has volunteered for this event please click here and choose someone to sponsor:

Here are the details for 2013:

On the afternoon of January 12, 2014 we will host the plunge. The number of people and who specifically must get really cold will depend on our alumni and friends. There is a tiered system which will determine who goes in as we raise more and more money. Example: Jessica will not go into the lake unless we raise the final $17,000 required for the 2013 Strong kids campaign goal, whereas Ali Holmes will go into the water once we raise a mere $250. Of course we will be including all of our current staff in the event, but it would be great to have some of our summer staff, alumni and friends of camp join in as well. If you would like to be a part of the madness, contact Chuck (seniorcampdirector@camphirock.org) and he will assign you to a tier and get you all relevant information to help you on your way.

All of the money raised will roll up to the online giving page for the Ice Breakers event so you can track our progress (to see who will be taking the dip).

We will update the status and the tiers on our facebook group. Please join the group to follow all the action and offer any words of encouragement/heckling/etc. to the victims… err participants. To get us started the tiered system below will be in place, as we add more people, we will add their names and add tiers if necessary.

Thanks to all who have helped us in the past, we look forward to your continued support!

ICE BREAKERS 2013 UPDATE 3

Today is a big day!

Giving Tuesday - December 3, 2013

Today is Giving Tuesday, a day to show the world what you believe in and what causes are important to you. It is a way to give back this season without being door busted or dealing with long lines in the freezing cold.

The YMCA Camp Hi-Rock Strong Kids Campaign helps many families send their children to camp, provides subsidy to our youth camping programs, and (especially on days like this) brings our Hi-Rock Family together around a common cause – to support the camp we love.

We are proud to be the charity of choice for so many in our community and we are happy to celebrate Giving Tuesday with you.

Please consider a Giving Tuesday gift in one of the following ways:

  • Click “Donate Now” below to donate to camp directly.
  • Click here to help the Ice Breakers effort (if we raise enough money, camp staff and volunteers will jump into the frozen lake in January) – choose the person you would like to support at the bottom of the linked page.
  • Call camp to make a donation over the phone – we are always excited to talk to you.
  • Email your pledge to Jessica at executive@camphirock.org.
  • Contact David Bjorklund about attending our Monroe, CT phone-a-thon on December 4th.
  • Put a check in the mail to:

Alumni Reunion – A Success!

THANK YOU!

Thanks to all the alumni who made it up to camp. We had a lot of fun, shared a lot of stories, and became campers again – if only for a few days! We had alumni from Germany, Brazil, the UK, Australia, and the US, from the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, and 2000s (and everyone got along)!

If you were unable to join us for the reunion, we are always open and love when friends visit. Please do not be a stranger – come to work weekend, Family Camp, Fall Family Fun, Winter Family Camp, or Women’s Wellness, send your kids to day camp or sleepaway camp.

Please stay connected, we are a better place because of all the relationships you have created.

Women’s Wellness Weekend

Women’s Wellness Weekend 2013, May 31 – June 2

Since 2007, YMCA Camp Hi-Rock has been hosting a weekend just for women and girls (ages 11 and up). Come to camp in the spring to kick summer off right!  Wellness activities will include the following: fitness classes, crafting and jewelry making, tasty (and healthy) deserts, nutrition information, and of course great camp activities like hiking, boating, high ropes, low ropes, and the climbing tower. We will be hosting our annual fun run – “The Mailbox Marathon” (not actually a marathon!) on Saturday morning.

For additional information please contact Charles Hirsch, Senior Camp Director at YMCA Camp Hi-Rock: seniorcampdirector@camphirock.org
